Washington Pavilion Classes and Camps


The goal of the Washington Pavilion of Arts and Science educational programming is to provide students with an opportunity beyond the traditional classroom. Our classes have been designed around 21st Century Skills, with the outcome being intrinsically motivated students who will want to learn beyond our time together.

Toddler Art: ages 2 & 4 with an adult
Toddler Art has been developed for parents and toddlers to explore the fundamentals of art together. Guided by an art professional, toddlers will be introduced to textures, shapes, and colors while making original art.


Toddler Textures 60300– The world is full of different textures! Families will experience and describe textures found in art through mixed media and painting projects.

Preschool Series: ages 3 & 4
This series has been designed with the curious preschooler in mind. With each class held in our on-site preschool room, students in each session will explore science, art and drama in a structured preschooler friendly environment.


Diggin’Dinos 60304– South Dakota is an exciting place to be a dinosaur, just ask Stan, our resident T-Rex. In this dino-riffic class you will play fun dino games, create dino art and spend some time in the Kirby Science Discovery Center getting to know the world of paleontologists.

Art Adventures 60305– Art is all around us! Try different styles of art, explore the Visual Art Center, play art games and create a magic painting. This class will help you find art in your everyday life.

Animalopolis 60306– This fun class is created around our new CineDome film, Animalopolis. During this class you will explore animals in art, learn fun scientific facts about animals, act like your favorite animals and see the film Animalopolis.

Early Elementary Series: ages 5 & 6
This series has been designed to showcase what Washington Pavilion has to offer. These  sessions explore the arts, performing arts, and science.

Wiggles and Giggles 60308– Wiggles & Giggles offers music and movement designed for young children, filled with age appropriate songs, games, and activities. With the focus on having fun, Wiggles & Giggles is the kind of high-energy experience that children love.

One Day Classes For 7-14 Year Olds 

Journey Women: Art Dolls 60325 – Led by members of the Journey Women collaboration, students will create an art doll. Starting with a basic doll form, students will rotate through a series of stations with different materials to embellish, decorate and create an identity for their art doll.

DaVinci’s Italy 60326 – Learn about one of the masters, Leonardo DaVinci. Make an “old” sketchbook, use pencils, charcoal and sanguine just like Leonardo used!

Journey Women: Journals 60330 – Instructed by members of the Journey Women collaboration, students will create journals using the pamphlet and the Japanese stab binding methods. Journals will be decorated, and participants can bring a favorite quote and/or collage materials for that purpose.

Inspiring the Muse 60331 – In this exploratory experience designed to help you gain insight into what motivates you to create we will explore which language of creativity you respond to: sight, sound, or movement. We’ll explore all three through various exercises of writing, drawing, and conversing. We’ll discuss techniques that help you harness your creativity and keep the muses coming back time & time again!

Tuesday Clay for Beginners
Students will be introduced to pottery by working with and exploring basic techniques of working with raku clay.
