Experience the “Ring of Fire” Eclipse!

Experience the “Ring of Fire” Eclipse!
Saturday, October 14 | 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.
Live presentations at 10:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.

Join us for a live viewing of the first annular “ring of fire” eclipse in 11 years at the Sweetman Planetarium!

During an annular solar eclipse, the moon moves between the sun and Earth at its farthest distance from our planet. As a result of the moon's distance from Earth, it appears smaller than the sun, and therefore, does not fully cover it. This produces a stunning "ring of fire" effect in the sky.

To celebrate this amazing occurrence, we’re hosting an annular eclipse viewing day full of fun activities for all! Here’s what you can look forward to:

  • Witness an exciting livestream of the annular eclipse happening in real-time for the first time in 11 years!  Our livestream is from a location that will see the eclipse at 100%, and you can view it safely on our amazing new dome screen.
  • Learn how and why an eclipse occurs during a live presentation.
  • Build your own solar eclipse pinhole viewer in Jack’s Imagination Lab.
  • Enjoy tasty space-themed bites in The WP!
  • Regular Sweetman Planetarium showings will take place at 2 p.m., 3 p.m. and 4 p.m.

Add this experience or a showing to your regular museums admission for just $4 for members and $5 for the public!
